FIRST
USKBA CHAMPIONSHIP OF NEW MILLENNIUM
On January 15, 2000 at 7:22 pm, the arm of Henry "The Hitman"
Nieves was raised in victory as the first USKBA World Champion
of the New Millennium. Nieves won a hard fought split decision
over Brian "Ice" Hollins in the Cruiserweight Division.
In
the first round, Hollins came out fighting with an arsenal of
punches and kicks that overwhelmed the audience at Winning Image
Production's BATTLE IN THE BRONX in The Bronx, New York. Hollins
floored Nieves. Nieves got up and the round went back and forth.
Hollins took the early rounds with Nieves coming back with Hollins
receiving a standing eight count. The non-stop action had the
crowd on their feet. When the air cleared, Nieves got the belt.
The fight was so close, audience members could be heard discussing
this bout for an hour after it was over. Hollins proved to be
one of the best 190 lb kickboxers in the sport today. Nieves proved
that his 36 wins were all earned.

HEART
OF MUAYTHAI
AMERICAN JAMES DOWNEY WINS AT BANGKOK'S HISTORIC RAJADAMNERN MUAYTHAI
STADIUM. DOWNEY IS THE FIRST AMERICAN TO FIGHT - AND WIN - AT
THAILAND'S "HEART OF MUAYTHAI". On Thursday, January 6, 2000 James
"Knock`em Down" Downey did what no other American has ever done.
Fighting in his professional debut at Bangkok's famous Rajadamnern
Stadium, the 21 year old Muaythai fighter from Racine (WI) not
only became the first American to ever fight at Rajadamnern- he
also became the first American to win at Rajadamnern. The victory
improves Downey's overall record to 12-1, 6 ko's (pro record :1-0,
1 ko). His 20 year old Thai opponent Konsan T.Pitakgolghan brought
35 professional fights into the ring. Both fighters weighed in
at 154 lbs./70 kgs. Downey followed the Thai tradition by taking
on the ring name "Sit Kongnapa Kiet Phetnoi" which means "student
of Kongnapa and Phetnoi Gym". He took the name to honor his trainer
Kongnapa Kiet Phetnoi (4-time Rajadamnern Stadium Champion & current
Jr. Middleweight World Champion). The event was promoted by Mr.
Wiwat Phetnoi. Those who stayed after the main event were treated
to an awesome Junior Middleweight battle. The fight started fast
and furious, as the Thai tested Downey's blocking and defense,
with an onslaught of powerful kicks and crafty elbows.
Thank You, Duke Roufus

ART
OF WAR - Hawaii
Fairtex will be the featured in the Hawaiian promotion "ART OF
WAR" USA vs Russia February 26, 2000 at the Blaisdell Arena. The
Fairtex pros and amateurs will be fighting traditional Muay Thai
rules while our Russian opponents will be operating under Drakka
rules. It should be an intriguing contest. Fairtex fighters rarely
have the opportunity to use elbow blows and has proven more than
lethal against the Chinese Sanshou fighters last May '98. Plan
on getting out the winter weather you usually experience in February
and join us in Oahu, Hawaii for sun, sand and Muay Thai! THE FIGHT
ROSTER: Enn Fairtex, Kazsushi, Ryan Roy, George "TNT" Tsutui ,
Jongsanan "The Wooden Man", Jean Claude Leuyer and Michael Reginer.

The
Irish Open 2000
Well Guys the big event is drawing near, The Irish Open 2000 Europe’s
largest semi-contact martial arts event is only fifty-four days
away. If you have not been to the Irish Open then you have no
idea what you are missing. We now have full confirmation from
twenty four International teams, England x 8, Belgium, Denmark,
Ukraine, Wales, Turkey, Canada, USA, Slovakia, Italy x 2, Austria
x 2, Germany, France, Spain, N Ireland, Scotland and Greece so
that is not bad at this early stage and remember all international
teams must be pre registered on or before 10th Feb, so hopefully
we will top last years tremendous achievement of thirty two international
teams. You can view last year’s event and results at www.bushido.ie
We are expecting twelve hundred fighters to be participating in
light and semi contact kickboxing on the day. This year we are
offering cash prizes for the team event and grand champion as
well as a special forms/weapons challenge. We are also hosting
the team event on the Saturday night 26th Feb, which we think
will be an incredible show, with internationally renowned teams
like, Team Hayashi, Team A.K.A.I., Team Austria, Team Italy, Team
SAP, Team Lau and we have had enquiries from Team Top Ten and
Team Jean Paul Mitchell, so this Team event is really heating
up. If you would like any further information on the Irish Open
feel free to contact me at your earliest opportunity. Roy Baker.
